August 17: A Back-to-School Prayer for Our Educators and Students

Our Father, we praise and thank You for our educators and students.  Thank You for each school and school district.  Thank You for surrounding each educator and student with favor like a shield.  We exalt You, our God and King and praise Your Name forever and ever.  We will praise You every day and forever.  Lord You are great and most worthy of praise; no one can measure Your greatness.  Each generation will tell its children of Your mighty acts and proclaim Your power.  Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.  Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains and Your justice like the ocean depths.  As a Church Family, we come clapping our hands and shouting to You with joyful praise.  You are the Lord, Most High, and You are awesome!  You are the great King of all the earth.

Triumphant Father, we confess that like Jesus, our students will grow in wisdom, stature and favor with You and all people.  We declare that they will focus on their studies during the school term and not grow distracted or complacent. Each student will work willingly in their classes as though they were working for You.  Lord, we declare that no evil will conquer them, nor will any plague come near their homes.  We expect for You to order Your angels to protect them wherever they go.  We decree that the wisdom of God will enter and rule in their hearts.  We confess that they will respect and obey the instructions of their parents, teachers and school administrators.  We declare that the wise instruction of the teachers will be like a life-giving fountain to each student.  In Jesus’ Name, each parent will direct their children onto the right path, and when they are older they will not leave it.  Our students will have good success because they will meditate daily and obey Your Word.

Holy Spirit, I will pray for the following educators and students in my family and community:

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Holy Spirit, impart into our students Your spirit of excellence, like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego.  Bless our educators for their service to the Houston community and surrounding communities.  Help them to remain committed to their educational “calling.”  Keep them safe in their classrooms and lead and guide them as they teach. Grant each teacher wisdom, creativity, and grace to teach each child according to his or her needs, level of intelligence, and learning capabilities.  Increase the wisdom and understanding of each parent on how to partner with the schools to achieve success in their student’s education.  Bless the homes of each student to be a place of love, peace and support.  We ask You to increase the capacity of the students to learn, comprehend and excel in all areas of their education including: reading, mathematics, sciences, arts, and all required testing. During their extracurricular activities, please protect them from injury.  Help each student to develop Godly friendships this school year. Holy Spirit, create within each student, teacher, and administrator an excitement, passion and academic desire as they enter the new school year.

Merciful Father, forgive the sins of our educators and students (list the specific sins).  Forgive those of us in the Body of Christ, for being negligent in teaching our students to first reverence You, which is the foundation of true knowledge.  Forgive those parents for sacrificing their students to excessive television, video games, music and to the ways and customs of the world.  Forgive us, as a nation, for devaluing the worth of teachers and education.  Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Holy Spirit, remind our educators and students of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.  As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive.  (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive.  As He shows you, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).”  Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help our educators and students to not yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Exalted Lord, You are worthy to receive glory, honor and power.  You created all things, and they exist because You created what You pleased.  Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever.   In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

May 29: A Prayer for Our Graduates

Gracious Father, we thank You for our graduates. Thank You for being the source of all wisdom.  Thank You for the plans that You have for each of their lives; plans for good and not evil, so that they will each have a future and a hope.  We give thanks to You, Lord.  We call upon Your Name and make Your Name known among the people.  We will sing psalms to You, Lord and talk about all of Your wondrous works.

Blessed Father, we declare that our graduates will not turn away from Your Word. They will meditate on it day and night so that they will be successful in everything they do.  As they continue their education or enter the job market, we confess that they will trust in You with all their hearts and not depend on their own understanding.  They will seek Your will in all they do, so that You will direct their paths.  Lord, many of our youth are leaving home for the first time.  We declare that they have been taught to choose the right path, so now that they are older, they will remain on that path. They will choose Christ over culture and holiness over worldliness.  Godly wisdom will lead and guide each graduate so that in all they do, they will not gain the world and lose their souls.   We expect favor to surround each of our graduates as they enter this new phase in life.

List the names of those persons you know who are graduating.  Now ask the Holy Spirit how you should intercede for them:

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Loving Father, please help our graduates to surround themselves with like-minded individuals.  Holy Spirit, please remind them that the decisions they make today will have an impact on their future.  Open doors for them that no man can shut.  Help them to identify and take advantage of scholarships, grants, internship opportunities and job leads.  As they begin this new season in their lives, remind them to continually seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously so that the Father will provide them with all that they need.

Merciful Father, please forgive our graduates for any acts of sinfulness that they have committed.  Forgive them if they have made poor decisions during their time in high school or college that is now limiting their future.  Forgive them for any illicit, illegal or inappropriate behavior that they engaged in while they were in school. Forgive those who have disrespected their parents, teachers, friends or themselves. As for me Holy Spirit, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed). Holy Spirit, remind our graduates of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.

Holy Spirit, please help our graduates to not yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Triumphant King, You are the Lord, our Redeemer and Creator.  You are the Lord who made all things.  You alone stretched out the heavens.  You made the earth and everything in it by Yourself.  You reign forever!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

May 3: A Prayer for Students Taking Final Exams

Majestic Father, we thank You for our students who are preparing for Final Exams. Thank You for crowning each of them with wisdom and honor. Thank You for the educators who have a genuine interest in seeing our children and youth succeed. O God, You are our God; we earnestly search for You.  Our souls thirst for You; our bodies long for You in this parched and weary land where there is no water.  We have seen You in Your sanctuary and gazed upon Your power and glory.  Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how we praise You!  We will praise You as long as we live.  We will lift up our hands to You in prayer.  You satisfy us more than the richest feast.  With songs of joy will we praise You.

Royal Father, we confess that our students are well versed in every area of learning; gifted with knowledge and good judgment. We declare that just as You anointed Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego with an unusual aptitude for understanding every aspect of literature and wisdom, that You will anoint our students to excel in their academics and to conquer their Final Exams. We decree that our students understand the value of knowledge; they understand that wisdom is more profitable than silver and her wages are better than gold.  We confess that they will not be anxious about these tests, but they will pray and tell You what they need. They will thank You for all that You have done for them; then they will experience Your peace which exceeds anything they can understand. We declare that our students can do everything through Christ, including excelling on these Final Exams, because You give them strength.  We expect that as they study and apply themselves to their academics, that Holy Spirit, You will bring all things to their remembrance when they sit down to begin their Final Exams.  We decree that our students are the head and not the tail; they will always be on top and will never be at the bottom academically.

Holy Spirit, please help our students to hunger and thirst after knowledge.  Help them to shed every false label, expectation and preconceived notion that society has placed upon them. Help them to see themselves as more than conquerors in every aspect of their lives. Holy Spirit, please help our parents and guardians to understand how important it is for them to have an active role in their child’s education. Show them how to partner with their student’s teachers to encourage and help their child to learn. Lead and guide our students to scholarship and grant opportunities to help pay for their educational expenses. Please open new revenue streams for those parents who are sending their children to college.

Loving Father, forgive the sins of our educators and students.  Forgive us, as parents and guardians, for being negligent in teaching our students to first reverence You which is the beginning of wisdom.  Forgive those of us for sacrificing our students to excessive television, video games, music and to the ways and customs of the world.  Forgive those for devaluing the worth of teachers and education.  Forgive us all for not being more insistent on quality education in our school systems.  Father, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Holy Spirit, remind our students of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.

Holy Spirit, help our students to not yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Awesome Lord, Your right hand is glorious in power.  Your right hand smashes the enemy.  In the greatness of Your majesty, You overthrow those who rise against You.  You unleash Your blazing fury; it consumes them like straw. Who is like You among the gods, glorious in holiness, awesome in splendor, performing great wonders?  You are God alone!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Holy Spirit, give us courage and help us as Christians, to share Christ with our unsaved educators and students at (speak the name of your school).  Remove the scales from the eyes of those who cannot see Your glory and faithfulness.  Use us as Your instruments to be a blessing at (speak the name of your school). Build a hedge of protection around our school. Help each educator and student to walk in love and unity towards one another. Remind all of us to watch out for one another. Let Your Spirit of love permeate our school and community.  Holy Spirit, unify our community and help us to stand against violence, crime, and injustice at (speak the name of your school).

Merciful Father, forgive our educators and students at (speak the name of your school) for any acts of sinfulness, including theft, strife, discord, jealousy, rivalries, violence, injustice, hatred, oppression, greed, idolatry, pride, slander, sexual immorality, lewd behaviors, selfish ambition, abuse of any type, drunkenness, wild parties, division, and other sins like these.  Forgive those at (speak the name of your school) and in our communities who do not trust in You.  Forgive those of us who are Christians for not sharing Your Gospel with our educators, students and neighbors. Holy Spirit, remind our educators and students at (speak the name of your school) of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.

Holy Spirit, help our educators and students at (speak the name of your school) to not yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Eternal Lord, You are the blessed and Sovereign One; the King of kings, and the Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man can see.  Yours is the Kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
