A Prayer for Darfur

A Prayer for Darfur

Scripture Reading:

II Samuel 22:1-4, Proverbs 31:8-9, Revelation 21:3-4

Reflections of the Heart:

What images does the name Darfur bring to mind?  Violence?  Despair? Hopelessness?  Confusion?  For too many, the name does not bring any image to mind.  It is unimaginable to not only believe that people are unaware that a modern-day Holocaust is occurring, but that the survivors of this tragedy are being ignored or further brutalized when they seek refuge and help.  Let us pray that God will open our eyes and ears to see and hear the pleas of the people in Darfur; and open our minds and hearts to respond to their needs.

Scriptural Prayer:

To You Lord, O God, enthroned in Heaven, we lift our hearts and our eyes for You are alive!  You are a tower of salvation and we sing Your praise among the nations, for You have given us great victories.  In You, Abba Father, we find protection.  You are a shield, a stronghold and protector from violence.  You are worthy of praise; so praise be to our Rock, our Salvation who delivers us from our enemies.  We proclaim that You, Lord, are just, that in You there is no wrong.  Thank You for sending Your son, Jesus Christ, to redeem us from sin and death.  Thank You for being our God and making us Your people.  Thank You for compassion and unfailing love.

Almighty Father, You are the God of deliverance.   You are the Lord of Heaven’s Armies who possesses all power and might.   You are the God who brought the Israelites out of Egypt with great strength and a powerful arm.  We are confident that You are able to deliver the people of Sudan.  You, the Lord Most High, are awesome.  You are the great King of all the earth who subdues nations before us and puts our enemies beneath our feet.  Today, using the authority of Jesus Christ, we destroy the demonic strongholds that reside in the minds of Darfur’s oppressors and command the demonic spirits that rule over this territory to cease from operating in Sudan.   We cancel the assignments of death, destruction, and devastation in this region of the world.  In Jesus’ Name, peace be still!  We command justice to run down like water, and righteousness like a mighty stream.

Holy Spirit, we ask that You remove the hardness that is in the hearts of the people who are sanctioning genocide; show those who are destroying others, in the name of ethnic cleansing, their evil ways.  Reveal to them that when You, Father, look down from Your throne in Heaven, You see all humans, observe their ways, and that sorrow awaits those who issue unfair laws and prey on widows and orphans.  Father, please bring more attention to the plight of the people in Darfur.  Touch the hearts of journalists who work for major news agencies to increase their coverage of this horrific crisis.  Stir the hearts of leaders from nations around the world to intervene in order to save lives.   Send God-fearing, trustworthy negotiators, whom You have enlightened with Your wisdom and knowledge, to negotiate a peaceful end to the genocide.  Lord of Heaven’s Armies, we ask a special blessing for the children who have endured unspeakable atrocities such as rape and mutilation.  Comfort those children whose parents and families have been murdered and provide new homes for them.  Holy Father, have mercy upon the people of Darfur.  Extend Your loving compassion and unfailing love towards them.  Please send more help!

Merciful Father, forgive the leaders of Sudan who initiated the genocide by pitting tribe against tribe.  Forgive them for ordering and encouraging the physical, mental, and emotional destruction of an entire people.  Forgive the soldiers who are ravaging the lives of men, women, and children.  Forgive those of us who live under stable government rule for turning a blind eye to our brethren in Darfur.  Forgive us, the Body of Christ, for not praying and advocating for this terrible situation.   You said to mourn when others mourn.  Forgive us for our selfishness and apathy.  Please forgive world leaders who have chosen not to intervene and have said that this catastrophe has been blown out of proportion, that this is not their problem.   Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed.)  Holy Spirit, help the Sudanese people to forgive their oppressors.  You said in Your Word that we must forgive others.  Please help them to release anger, bitterness, resentment and hatred.  Holy Spirit, You are the only One who can help them to forgive.  As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive.  (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive.  As He shows you, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).”  Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Lord, help the people of Darfur not to yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Let all the earth fear the Lord.  May everyone stand in awe of You, for nothing is impossible for You.  No army can match Your might.  You have established Your reign forever and ever.   In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer of Protection for the United States of America Regarding Terrorism

A Prayer of Protection for the United States of America Regarding Terrorism

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 145:1-7, Psalm 27

Reflections of the Heart:

“God guards you from every evil, he guards your very life. He guards you when you leave and when you return, he guards you now, he guards you always.” Psalm 121:7-8 (The Message)

Scriptural Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for blessing our nation, the United States, and extending Your grace and mercy towards us. Thank You for protecting all of our borders and exposing evil plans against our country. Your steadfast love is from everlasting to everlasting.  We love You, Lord, and bless Your Holy Name.  Lord, we worship You with gladness. We come before You singing with joy. We acknowledge that You are God! You made us and we are Yours.  We will enter Your gates with thanksgiving and go into Your courts with praise. You are good, Father. Your unfailing love continues forever and Your faithfulness continues to each generation!

Almighty God, we confess that as Your Word is sent out, it will accomplish all that You want it to, and it will prosper everywhere You send it. As we continue to declare Your Word, we are confident that we will see Your goodness while we are in the land of the living and with expectant hearts we shall see the destruction of terrorism throughout the world.  We declare that all nations who trust in You will live quiet and peaceable lives in Godliness and dignity. Lord, we know that there is only one God and one Mediator between You and humanity, which is Christ Jesus. We confess that Your Gospel will continue to spread throughout the world.  Your Kingdom has come and You reign. We declare that as those throughout the world trust in You, they will experience Your peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. In Jesus’ Name, we command every hidden scheme of terror to expose itself. We proclaim that You have destroyed the wicked   men who masterminded 9/11 and subsequent terrorist attacks around the world, and their names are forever erased. We destroy every terroristic plot that any of their followers and sympathizers plan to put into action and render their works powerless. Father, we trust You to continue to surround our nation and our allies with Your favor. We declare that Americans who are working and living in foreign nations are covered by the blood of Jesus. They are rescued from every trap and they are protected from deadly disease. You cover them with Your feathers and shelter them with Your wings. Your faithful promises are their armor and protection.

Holy Spirit, continue to expose the network operations, identities, plans, and locations of terrorist groups. Alert us, the Body of Christ, when we need to fight against the spiritual forces who speak to the minds of men and women to retaliate against the U.S. and our allies. Help us, as a nation, to resist anxiety, unrest, depression, hopelessness, fear, and guilt.  Lord, we ask You to continue to touch the hearts of all Christians to pray for the nations of the world. Holy Spirit, remind us to pray for our country continually. Please increase the prayer movement in the world and help us to pray with boldness and diligence. We ask You to help our President, his administration, Congress and our armed forces. Give them Your wisdom, knowledge, confidence, and peace. Touch the hearts of all world leaders to look to You for guidance and direction. Keep our intelligence agencies (the CIA, FBI, and Homeland Security) vigilant and alert. Help them stay in continual communication and keep them sharply focused on critical details so that they may work soberly and decisively. Surround them with Godly counsel and let Your voice pierce any darkness.  Cause their hearts to become flooded with light.

What are your concerns about terrorism? List them and talk to the Lord about them:

Scriptural Prayer:

Father, Your word is right and all of Your work is done in truth.  You love righteousness and justice.  The earth is full of Your goodness.  By Your word the heavens were made and You breathed into all of the host that dwell in the heavens.  You gathered the waters of the sea together like a heap and laid up the deep in the storehouses.  Let all of the earth fear You and all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of You.  Father, we thank You for blessing our nation, and extending Your grace and mercy towards us.  Thank You for protecting all of our borders and exposing evil plans against our country. We recognize that You protect us from all danger.  Your steadfast love is from everlasting to everlasting.  We love You, Lord, and bless Your Holy Name.

Father, we believe in Your Word.  We confess that Your word that is spoken from our mouths will not return to You void, but it will accomplish what You please and prospers in the thing for which You send it.  Therefore, we confess that we shall see Your goodness in the earth, and with expectant hearts we shall see the obliteration of terrorism throughout the world.  We declare that all nations who trust in You will live quiet and peaceable lives in all godliness and honesty.  We know that there is one God and one Mediator between You and men, which is Christ Jesus and we confess that Your Gospel will continue to spread throughout the world.  We declare that Your peace that surpasses all understanding will be manifested and established throughout the world.  Father, we trust You to surround us, Your people, with favor like a shield.

Father, we ask You to destroy the plans of all terroristic plots in this world.  Continue to expose the network operations of terrorist groups.  Lord, we ask You to continue to touch the hearts of all Christians to pray for all the nations of the world.  Holy Spirit, remind us to pray for our country.  Holy Spirit, please sustain the prayer movements in the world and increase the effectiveness of our prayers.  We ask You to help our President.  Give him Your wisdom, knowledge, confidence and peace.  Touch the hearts of all world leaders to look to You for guidance and direction.  Surround them with godly counsel and help them to hear Your voice.

Father, forgive us as a nation for our many sins.  Forgive us for hypocrisy, injustice, oppression, greed, racism, sexism, ageism, elitism, deceit, lying, lewdness, pornography, selfish ambitions, lawlessness, rebellion, violence, hatred, partiality, sexual promiscuity, homosexuality, adultery, fornication, and slander.  God, have mercy upon us and help us to continue to follow after You, as a nation.  Forgive us for not representing Your Kingdom.  Forgive us for not consistently praying about terrorism and for being insensitive to the terrorism that is occurring in other countries.  Lord, remind our nation to be forgiving and help us to forgive.

Lead us not into temptation; but, deliver us from the evil one.

Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty.  Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints.  Who shall not fear You and glorify Your name?  You alone are Holy.  All nations shall come and worship before You, for Your judgments have been manifested. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
